Meet the Run 619 NFS Insole

If you wear wide toe box shoes, finding wide toe box insoles that actually match the shape of your footwear can be harder than it should be.

The Run 619 NFS Wide Toe Box Insole was designed specifically with wide toe box footwear in mind. Its broad forefoot, tapered heel and flexible construction make it a great replacement option for many shoes from Altra, Topo Athletic and other brands built around a roomier toe box.

NFS stands for Natural Foot Shape, and that pretty much sums up the idea behind it.

Why the NFS Works Well with Altra and Topo Athletic Shoes

Altra is one of the brands we hear about most often from customers looking for replacement insoles.

Many Altra models have a distinctly broad forefoot, so replacing the factory liner isn't just a matter of finding the right length. You also want an insole with enough width through the toe area to match the shape of the shoe.

That's where the NFS comes in.

The wide forefoot and tapered heel make the NFS compatible with many Altra models, while the trim-to-fit design allows you to fine-tune the shape when necessary.

The NFS wide toe box insole is also zero drop, meaning the insole itself has no additional heel-to-toe elevation built into it. It's important to remember that an insole does not change the underlying geometry of the shoe. If a shoe has heel-to-toe drop built into its midsole, replacing the removable insole will not eliminate it.

Topo Athletic is another popular choice for people who want more space through the toes without an excessively loose fit through the rest of the shoe.

That combination also works well with the shape of the NFS. The forefoot is broad where you want the extra room, while the heel tapers down to fit more naturally inside the back of the shoe.

For Topo Athletic shoes, the NFS provides a flexible option designed around the foot-shaped forefoot found in many models.

As with any replacement insole, exact fit can vary from one shoe model to another, which is why we recommend comparing the NFS to the removable insole already inside your shoe.

Flexible 5.5mm Construction

Shape was the starting point for the NFS, but we also wanted the insole to remain flexible and comfortable underfoot.

The NFS wide toe box insole is approximately 5.5mm thick and combines a PU top layer with a textured EVA base.

That gives it more substance than a basic shoe liner while allowing the insole to flex naturally inside the shoe.

The NFS does not use a rigid arch structure. It is designed as a flexible replacement insole rather than a highly structured orthotic.

Key features include:

  • Wide, natural-foot-shaped forefoot
  • Tapered heel
  • Approximately 5.5mm thickness
  • Zero-drop design
  • Flexible construction
  • PU top layer
  • Textured EVA base
  • Eight sizes
  • Trim-to-fit design

Why the Tapered Heel Matters

A wide toe box doesn't necessarily mean the entire shoe is wide.

Many foot-shaped shoes provide extra room primarily through the forefoot while remaining considerably more fitted through the midfoot and heel.

That's why we didn't simply make the entire NFS wider.

The broad forefoot provides the space needed up front, while the tapered heel helps the insole fit more naturally into the rear of the shoe.

It's a small design detail, but an important one when you're trying to create an insole specifically for this type of footwear.

How to Choose the Right Size

For the best fit, don't rely only on the shoe size printed on the box.

Instead, remove the existing insole from your shoe and measure it from heel to toe. Compare that measurement with the sizing chart on the NFS product page.

Your existing insole also makes the best trimming template.

Place it on top of the NFS, align the heels, trace the outline if necessary, and carefully trim away any excess material.

If you fall between two NFS sizes, choose the larger size.

You can always trim an insole down.

You can't make one longer or wider after the fact.

Designed to Replace Removable Insoles

The NFS wide toe box insole is designed to replace the existing removable insole in your shoe.

It should not normally be placed on top of another full-length insole, since doing so adds unnecessary thickness and can reduce the amount of room available inside the shoe.

Before ordering, check that the factory insole in your shoes can be removed.

Once removed, you can use that original liner to compare both length and shape before trimming the NFS.

Not Just for Altra and Topo

Altra and Topo Athletic are two obvious examples, but the NFS isn't limited to those brands.

It can work with many shoes that use a wide, anatomical or foot-shaped toe box, provided the original insole is removable and the dimensions are compatible.

That's also why we offer the NFS wide toe box insole in eight sizes rather than trying to tie each size to a particular shoe brand or model.

Shoe sizing is not perfectly standardized. Two shoes marked with the same size can have noticeably different internal dimensions.

Measuring the existing insole is always the better way to determine fit.

A Better Match for the Shape of Wide Toe Box Shoes

The idea behind the NFS wide toe box insole is straightforward.

If your shoes give your toes more room, it makes sense to use a replacement insole designed with that same type of shape in mind.

The Run 619 NFS Wide Toe Box Insole combines a broad, natural-foot-shaped forefoot with a tapered heel, flexible 5.5mm construction and a zero-drop profile.

If you're looking for replacement insoles for Altra, Topo Athletic or other wide toe box shoes, the NFS was built specifically for that job.

Wide where it matters. Flexible underfoot. Designed to fit the shape of the shoes you already like.
